Afternoon Delight

IMG_0249

Lila met her great-great-Aunt Evie recently, amidst a brief but cheery crowd of paternally-descended family who gathered here one recent Sunday for lunch. Evie made the trek from Las Vegas with her son Jerry and his wife, Claire. Their 2 children, Barry and Danica, are long-time residents of our fair city, so Jerry and Claire come through semi-regularly, but this was the first time since we've been here that Evie made the trip as well.

Much to Linda's (aka Nana's) great delight, Jerry and Claire brought a battery of tiny bundt cakes with them for desert, from a new but thriving franchise in the Las Vegas area called "Nothing Bundt Cake". You see, Linda has been touting the bundt cake as the revolution on the desert horizon for some time now - at any given moment she has a variety of tasty frozen bundt cakes in her freezer that she can and will whip out for any sort of occasion - and these mini-cakes confirmed her seemingly prescient vision of a bundt cake in every pot.

They WERE a tasty cake, and we finally ate the last one yesterday, although the grammatically incorrect name did leave room for a lot of discussion. Of course we appreciate a good pun, but the turn of phrase seems to suggest that either (a) Bundt is NOT a cake, or (b) there were no Bundt cakes to be had at the establishment that was selling them. Though we enjoyed every last bite, the name did leave us scratching our heads.

But I digress. The house was filled with family from far and near, and for the most part, Lila was on her very best behavior, sharing her books and toys happily with her visitors, handing off stuffed animals to be kissed to anyone with lips. And she graciously shared the spotlight with Aunt Evie, both oblivious to the 85-some odd years that separated them.
