The White Squirrel

There is a legendary albino squirrel that roams Brooklyn's Prospect Park, and yesterday, on our way to the playground, we were lucky enough to spot him. Lila found him no more charming than the average gray squirrel (or "swirl" as she calls them), but humored me as I dragged her stroller off the asphalt path to try to get a close-up shot.

Lila talks in one long run-on sentence these days, so as I dashed over roots and under trees, Lila served as the real-time narrator, saying, "Oh! Der he is mommy! He eating. He eating something. Hello swirl! Hello swirl! It's Lila. Lila and Mommy, swirl! You white. You white swirl. What you eating, swirl? Mommy, he up in da tree. He on da branch. He running! He running fast! He jumping! Where he go? Where he go? Where he go? Mommy, where he go? Where he go? Where he go? Where he go? Where he go? Where he go, mommy? Where he go? Where he go? Where he go? Where he go? Where he go? Where he go?*

"Oh, der he is! He eating. He eating something. Hello, swirl! Hello swirl! It's Lila..."

Etc., etc. You get the picture. Extrapolate, and you have a snapshot of my entire day.

* Not an exaggeration
